TJ achieves Mission Zero Accreditation

TJ Group has become the first transport company on the south coast to achieve Mission Zero Accreditation Status after successfully passing the audit process last month.

TJ is now accredited with the Work-Related Road Risk (WRRR) Module 1 (Silver), which is the recognised equivalent of FORS Silver. Mission Zero has adopted a simpler process than FORS and is recognised by Transport for London (TfL) as well as many other regulatory bodies.

Mission Zero is a Quality Standard for the road fleet sector, enabling operators to demonstrate compliance with specific requirements, whilst aiming to reduce collisions, emissions, and prohibitions.

Mission Zero – which was launched in June 2023 as a FORS equivalent – is based on a full legal compliance audit, incorporating industry best practice. It is officially recognised as meeting specific contractual requirements such as TfL’s Work-Related Road Risk (WRRR) and CLOCS.

Upon achieving this accreditation, TJ was invited to host a visit for Mission Zero and the Metropolitan Police Commercial Vehicle Unit to promote this accreditation and demonstrate the possibilities to other transport companies in the region, and this is currently being organised.

Lee Downer, TJ’s Fleet Manager and Driver CPC Trainer, led the Mission Zero audit. He said: “I’m proud to have steered TJ towards Mission Zero at silver level. Our commitment to compliance and road safety is paramount, and working with our consultant, Steve Hale, I found the whole process very easy to get to grips with. This accreditation shows our clients and the authorities that we take our responsibilities seriously and should reassure the wider public when interacting with our vehicles on the public highway.”

During the audit process, Lee navigated the various elements successfully. In order to pass, TJ had to demonstrate competence in a range of areas, all of which were passed. These comprised:

  • Managing the Operation
  • Managing Drivers’ Hours & Tachos
  • Managing Staff
  • Managing Vehicles
  • Managing the Journey

The Accreditation was awarded on 7 April 2025, and an annual audit will need to be completed in order to maintain the status.
