2021: the year in review

Despite 2021 being another difficult year in many ways and presenting a number of challenges to the sector, we have nonetheless managed to have a very productive year. We have successfully kept projects on track, won new ones, opened new facilities, employed new staff, implemented new systems, won awards, invested in continuing professional development for staff, donated goods and services to worthy causes, sponsored a number of events and sports clubs, fundraised for charities, created new partnerships and invested in new plant and vehicles.

2021 highlights:

Award-winning services

The year got off to a great start with us being awarded the Feefo Platinum Trusted Service award for the second year running. The award is an independent seal of excellence that recognises businesses for delivering exceptional experiences, as rated by real customers. Then in August we gained SafeContractor accreditation for the second year running after successfully passing the audit carried out by the awarding body Alcumus SafeContractor.

Shoreham opening

Summer 2021 saw the opening of our new depot at Shoreham, which has allowed us to develop a closer working relationship with Tarmac, with whom we secured a five-year, multi-million pound contract in 2020 to haul aggregates across the central south coast on their behalf.  The new depot has also enabled us to offer our services across a wider area and we are building our client list in the Sussex area as a result.

Vehicle and plant investment

We have continued to invest in new vehicles and plant machinery this year as part of our continual renewal and maintenance scheme; this enables us to ensure that our entire fleet is safe and in tip top condition at all times. In September, we added four new state-of-the-art 360° plant vehicles to our fleet, which are being used at our Materials Recovery Facilities to sort, segregate and move waste with ease.

Sponsorship and donations

We made many contributions to worthy causes and community clubs throughout 2021; this is something we like to do to support clubs, projects and organisations that rely on businesses for help in order to continue their good work. This year we have sponsored Havant RFC, Petersfield RFC and the Portsmouth Marathon for the fourth year. We have made donations to a range of projects including providing free soil to a community garden in Portsmouth, free wood for the King George V bonfire and a free skip to Mission Christmas, a Wave 105 Cash for Kids campaign that provides support to children living in poverty at Christmas

Golf projects

This year we have continued to work on a number of golf club projects, which involves us undertaking extensive groundworks to implement improvements to the courses. These works include building new bunds, holes and  even driving range and practice facilities. This year saw us complete the project at Stoneham Golf Club, finalise Phase 1 of our project at Littlehampton Golf Club and win a contract at Test Valley Golf Club, which will commence in Spring 2022.

New partnerships

2021 has seen us establish new partnerships with a number of organisations including a new contract with Portsmouth City Council for waste management services, an agreement with the Final Straw Foundation to help in any way we can in the fight against plastic pollution and a commitment from us to Armed Forces personnel, reservists, veterans and their families, which we demonstrated by signing the Armed Forces Covenant.
