TJ takes delivery of new lorries

TJ Group has recently taken delivery of five brand new lorries – three roll-on-roll-offs (RORO) and two artics. These new vehicles have replaced our oldest lorries, ensuring our fleet remains in tip top condition.

We’re committed to a continuous renewal scheme, which means that our fleet is modern, with no vehicle planned to be more than five years old, ensuring safety and reliability.

These new lorries have full 360 degree camera systems with side sensors, work lights, and the latest innovations in VOLVO intelligent gearbox technology for fuel economy. Future models may include front short range assist, moving off information systems and side collision avoidance assist.

We’re watching safety equipment supplier Brigade Electronics with interest to see what they release for their active radar system to coincide with updates to Direct Vision. We understand their product is feature-complete and has featured in many trade magazines so we’re eagerly anticipating this release.

Road safety is one of our top priorities. Our entire fleet has a range of safety features installed to make them safer for both the drivers and those around them, as well as easier to manoeuver and operate. These features include a 5-point CCTV system, front and rear strobes, audible left turn warning and side scanner sensors.

Our drivers conduct daily safety checks first thing in the morning, with any issues being reported immediately. We also have a tyre safety package with Michelin, which provides additional peace of mind.

All our vehicles continue to meet the Euro 6 Standard, which means they are fully compliant when it comes to emissions. Our fleet comprises RORO lorries, skip lorries, grab lorries, artics, vans and sweepers, all of which are under the maintenance and renewal scheme.

Our drivers receive regular training to ensure their skills are always up to date. We hold an annual training event during which drivers receive training to update their skills and learn any new ones required.

We have an in-house CPC trainer, enabling all CPC training to  be done on-site rather than elsewhere. There are also different training requirements that need to be met to satisfy different customers and we always ensure these are fulfilled.

We also continue to maintain our coveted FORS Silver Status, which we successfully achieved in 2023 for the sixth consecutive year. There are three levels of FORS accreditation – Bronze, Silver and Gold. Bronze is the basic level, which ensures that as an operating company, you’re compliant and safe to be on the road.

To gain Bronze status, an auditor will come in and perform an audit on your systems to check you’re adhering to the basic standards. To step up to Silver status you are required to prove a number of other factors to show that you’re operating at a higher level and going the extra mile.

FORS (Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme) states that: “Silver accreditation confirms that you employ good practice and comply with the requirements laid out by the FORS Standard. By achieving FORS Silver accreditation your fleet will be compliant with the CLOCS Standard for Construction Logistics and with TfL’s WRRR (Work Related Road Risk).”
